Challenge Theatre
Challenge Theatre was initiated as a program to dare playwrights to stretch their creative boundaries. The approach has been to get four playwrights to agree to write a play before they knew what they were to write about. Once committed to the project, then they were given the assignment.
The first production was in January 2007, the result of the playwrights being challenged to write a play about war. In July 2007 Challenge II dealt with prejudice within one's own group. In April 2008, yet another group of writers responded to the challenge to write a comedy about death.
The program has proven its value and viability but we're going to do some rethinking and replanning before putting things in motion for Challenge IV. It just seems time to do a little restructuring. So we will have more to announce about this in the not-too-distant future.
